The Best Nighttime Skincare Routine

Updated: Apr 10

The secret to healthy, radiant skin lies in a well-crafted morning and evening skincare routine. With a thoughtful, natural skincare regimen powered by waterless and holistic formulations, you’ll be on your way to glowing, vibrant skin. This guide introduces you to a nourishing evening skincare routine designed to give your skin the care and nutrients it needs to look and feel its best.

Please note: For optimal results, following a complete routine with vegan skincare products is recommended—and we’ve outlined it for you below. But if you’re just getting started with natural skincare, no worries. What matters most is applying what you have in the correct order. You can gradually build out your full routine over time as you discover what works best for your skin.

Step 1 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Double Cleanse Your Skin

Cleansing your skin is the essential first step in any effective nighttime routine with natural skincare. It’s a step you definitely don’t want to skip.

Throughout the day, our skin comes into contact with pollutants, makeup, sunscreen, and excess oil. That’s why nighttime cleansing is so important. Properly washing your face removes all the buildup from the day and leaves your skin fresh and prepped for the rest of your holistic skincare routine. A clean canvas allows your products to penetrate more deeply—and work more effectively.

What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is the process of washing your face twice: first with an oil-based cleanser and again with a gel cleanser. For a deeper clean, this procedure works well for completely eliminating contaminants.

What Makes a Double Cleanse in the Evening Necessary?

The advantage of twice cleansing is that the first time you use an oil cleanser, any makeup will be broken down, debris and extra oil from the day will be removed, and your skin's surface will be cleaned. In order to address deeper-seated impurities, the second washing using a gel cleaner helps remove things like pollutants and debris that may not be visible to the human eye.

By the end of the day, your skin accumulates enough contaminants to warrant a double wash, even if you don't use makeup or SPF.

How to Double Cleanse in the Evening?

First Cleanse – Oil Cleanser: Start your nighttime routine by using a natural oil cleanser to remove the day’s buildup. Apply the oil to dry skin and gently massage it in. Add a small amount of warm water to emulsify, then rinse thoroughly. For a more effective removal, use a soft microfiber cloth with warm water to gently wipe away the oil.

Second Cleanse – Gel Cleanser: For a more thorough cleanse, follow up with a gel cleanser to remove any lingering oil and impurities. Massage a small amount onto damp skin to create a lather, then rinse thoroughly. For a gentle finish, use a damp microfiber cloth to remove any remaining product.

Your skin will be perfectly cleansed, prepped, and ready to absorb the benefits of the rest of your natural skincare routine if you follow these steps.

Step 2 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Use Toner

Applying toner or tonic is the next crucial step in your routine after cleansing in the evening. toner isn't your average toner; it's a strong, nutrient-rich liquid that balances the pH of your skin, improves its radiance, minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores, and increases moisture content. Additionally, it aids in clearing your pores of pollutants, dead skin, and any remaining residues. This makes it easier for the subsequent items in your nightly skincare routine to absorb and work better.

Using a Tonic or Toner

Once your hands are clean, apply a tiny bit of waterless skincare tonic or toner on them. To ensure uniform application and absorption, softly rub your palms together before gently pressing them onto your face and neck.

Step 2a of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Apply a Mask and Peel

Depending on the needs of your skin, you can use Olive Core Face Peeling and Waterless Skincare Masks one to three times per week. Skin that has been washed and toned should be used for the peeling and/or mask. Skin that has been cleansed and toned makes the perfect surface for the peels and masks to work their magic.

Olive Core Face Peeling

The peeling treatment gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells, supporting your skin’s natural regeneration process and revealing a smooth, refreshed complexion underneath. Thanks to its gentle formula, this peel won’t dry out or irritate the skin. Apply it to damp skin (moisture from your toner works great) and massage it in gently for the best results.

Waterless Skincare Masks

Because the skin is primed for the nutrients the masks offer, the Waterless Skincare Masks function best after applying the peeling. Waterless skincare masks aid in replenishing dry skin's lost moisture. The masks also absorb excess sebum, balance and even out the skin, nourish the skin deep within the pores, and encourage skin regeneration. After cleansing and drying the skin, they should be applied and left on for ten minutes. After that, take it off and wash it with warm water.

Step 2b of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Reapply Toner

It’s a great idea to apply a toner or tonic again after using the peel and/or mask, even if you’ve already used it earlier. The toner helps lock in the benefits of the mask, leaving your skin feeling smoother and looking younger for longer. Plus, it primes your skin for maximum absorption of any subsequent products.

Step 3 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Use Serums

The serum should now be applied after your skin has been properly prepped. The potent compositions in serums are designed to target specific skin conditions, such as redness, pimples, or dark spots. These serums, which are packed with a high concentration of active ingredients, provide deep treatment and noticeable improvements to the appearance and state of your skin.

How to Apply Face Serum

Apply a few drops of your serum to the palm of your hand, shake the container, and then gently massage the drops over your face. As an alternative, you can dab a few drops of the serum into your forehead and each side of your face and then gently massage it into your skin.

Step 4 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Apply Oil, Oil Serum, or Oil Elixir

The next step in your nighttime routine is to apply a face oil, oil serum, or elixir to deeply nourish your skin after the serum. This step is crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of active ingredients by helping them penetrate deeper into the skin. It’s key for boosting skin elasticity, minimizing fine lines, and strengthening the skin's natural barrier.

Are Face Oils Better Applied Before or After Moisturizer?

Typically, face oils are applied after moisturizer since they can penetrate and lock in the moisture. However, due to their unique formulations, natural face oils and serums are designed to work together for optimal results. You can enhance your skincare routine by mixing a few drops of your oil and serum and applying the blend to your face for maximum effectiveness.

When Is the Best Time to Take a Retinol or Retinol Alternative?

At night, your skin is at its most active. For this reason, you should incorporate your potent ingredients, such as retinol or its substitutes, into your nightly skincare regimen.

Green Retinol Face Elixir, Corrective Kahai Elixir, and Corrective Midnight Elixir are the three retinol and retinol substitutes offered. It is technically possible to use both the Green Retinol and the Kahai Elixir in the morning and evening. But you should save their Midnight Elixir for the evenings.

Applying Face Oil, Oil Serum, or Elixir

Warm two to three drops of the product of your choice in your palms to begin. Use gentle circular motions to massage it into your face. Before using, blend it with your serum for a more effective routine.

Applying Eye Elixir

Apply one drop of the Eye Elixir beneath each eye to the sensitive area of the eye. Then, to ensure a delicate application, gently tap and massage the product around the eye area with your ring finger.

Step 5 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Use a Moisturizer or Cream

No nighttime skincare routine is complete without proper moisture. The essential hydration found in natural skincare face and eye creams keeps your skin nourished and protected all night long. This crucial step strengthens your skin's barrier, protects it from environmental damage, and helps prevent dryness. Waterless Skincare Creams are unique because of their 100% bioactive recipe, which includes the potent chemical hydroxytyrosol. Deep hydration is guaranteed, and skin suppleness is increased as well, resulting in a smoother, younger-looking complexion and a gorgeous, radiant finish!

Anti-Aging Face Cream

Applying Face Cream

Using your fingers, dab a tiny bit of cream onto your forehead and each cheek. Next, use light circular motions to gently massage the cream into your skin.

Applying Eye Cream

Apply a small amount of cream to the outside of your eyes with the tip of your ring finger. Don't forget to avoid the eyelids.

Step 6 of the Nighttime Skincare Routine: Reapply Oil (Optional)

Although it's customary to use oil after moisturizing, natural skincare oils work especially well with their serums; therefore, using them together before applying your cream is recommended. To lock in all the benefits, I like to add a final touch to my evening skincare routine with either Jasmine Oil or Rose Oil.

Applying Face Oil

Apply a few drops of rose or jasmine oil to your forehead and cheeks, rubbing them into your skin with a gentle touch.

Customizing Your Nightly Skincare Routine: Priority Order

Making skincare a priority doesn’t have to be difficult. The following outlines the ideal strategy to gradually introduce a complete natural skincare routine:

Key Essentials for a Simple Routine: Serum and Face Cream. These needs include targeted care and hydration. Additionally, you will get a free Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream or Corrective Eye Elixir for added value and efficacy if you choose the serum and face cream suggested by your Skincare Quiz findings.

Building Upon Your Routine. After establishing the fundamentals, think about adding the Gel Cleanser and then an Oil, Oil Serum, or Elixir. The oil cleaner and tonic or toner can then be added. You can finish your regimen by obtaining the masks and peeling. For people who value the health of their interior skin, the Beauty Drinks are an added bonus.

You're on a quest to discover your skin's healthiest, most radiant condition, whether you choose to follow the entire natural skincare nighttime routine or start with the basics and work your way up. Remember, skincare is a journey, and I'm here to support you at every stage!
